Shades of grey

Some black and white stuff from the last few weeks.

I came in at the tail end of 'Shark Week' last week and being a big fan of sharks, had to squeeze a drawing in. And who better than the baddest of all sharks, the Great White. Drawn with black coloured pencil, I also experimented a lot with my custom brushes in Photoshop to get some cool textures. I'm thinking of adding some colour to this as well.

Second is a drawing of gaming nerd, Olivia Munn. Done for a Drawing Jam over at The Drawing Board. Graphite.

Lastly is a caricature of the ultra-talented caricaturist, Samuel 'Big Sam' Sellers.

Brilliant work Chris - that caricature is something special. Is that a texture or fingerprints on the shark ?

Great stuff.

i really like the use of the fingerprints of the shark, they add some cool texture and also define the shape really well.

Great work. Nice to see your custom brushes in action.

I've found the 'Brush Spots' and 'Oil Paint' ones especially useful in giving flat colours a bit of interest and life.

Great work Chris! That female figure is just so damned good! argh! And the shark gives me the creeps. We have been getting a few round here the last 6 months. We have had a giant 5 metre mako, a 5 metre great white caught in the nets at my local spot. A three and a half metre great white harassed some surfers at the same spot, and god knows what else. I checked the surf a week ago and there was a big shark thrashing about feeding out behind the break. During summer I was checking the surf and I could see them in the waves where the swimmers were about 50 metres out. The life guard didnt give a damn. they were only about 6 -7 footers.
oh, im blabbing on about sharks again someone stop me. !!! Awsome work Chris.

Appreciation as always for all your comments. Thanks!

Craig- I'm actually jealous you've been seeing so many sharks. I wouldn't surf with them, but I'd love to see them in the wild.

You ever been to the OUTRÉ galleries in Melbourne or Sydney? I was in Melbourne last month and I accidentally stumbled upon the gallery while walking around the city. Loads of framed James Jean prints and originals. Then I found out he was there a week earlier signing his book!

Hey Chris, I have only had one occasion with one up close in the water probably a bronze whaler during salmon season and my heart stopped. Last summer though and into the colder months, it was crazy. So many sharks because of an increase in fish stocks. Stories going through the car parks every day about sharks. argh. The clubbies at Thirroul were doing a paddle out the back and a big fat beast of a great white popped up in the middle of them, with its big smiling ugly mug and teeth all showing, then it turned and swam off. O..M..G. I'd have polluted the water then and there.

Haven't been to Outre. James Jean prints, too good! I have two at home. The guys a damn fine artist and smart business man. Great at branding, self promo, and an incredible artist. Im going green.
